(I) The Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) : (Tentatively scheduled on 15/05/2022) (i)The Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) shall be of 100 Marks, the duration whereof will be 02 Hours, consisting of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) each of 01 Mark with Negative Marking of 0.33 Mark for each Wrong / Multiple Answer, and would be based on the following Syllabus :

(ii) The language of the Question Paper of Preliminary Examination will be English Only.
(iii) Preliminary Examination Paper (Objective Type) shall be assessed / evaluated by the Computer, as per entries made on OMR Sheet. As the evaluation is being done on the Computer by Scanning, there is no human intervention and hence, queries relating to rechecking of the OMR Sheets, subsequent to the Preliminary Examination, will not be entertained by the High Court.
(iv) In view of amended Rule7, viz. Clause (aa) of SubRule (2) of Rule7 of “The Gujarat State Judicial Service (Amendment) Rules, 2019”, Candidates who have not passed Secondary as well as Higher Secondary Examination with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level at both stages) are required to pass the vernacular (Gujarati) Language Proficiency Test as prescribed below and to secure minimum 40% Marks for being eligible for being called for Main Written Examination.
Paper II: Test of Gujarati Language:
(Marks 50 – Duration 1½ Hours) [For those Candidates, who have not passed Secondary as well as Higher Secondary Examination with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level at both stages)] Syllabus:

(૭) ટબંટકનિનોંધ (કશ્નોઈપણ નવષય પર)
(૮) ગગુજરરાતતી વ્યરાકરણ
(v) To become eligible for Main Written Examination, the Candidate has to secure 50% or more Marks in the Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) and must have also passed their Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level at both stages);
OR
has to secure 50% or more Marks in the Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) and 40% or more Marks in the Test of Gujarati Language, in case they have not passed their Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level at both stages).
(vi) The Marks obtained by the Candidates in the Preliminary Examination (Elimination Test) as well as the Test of Gujarati Language shall not be taken into consideration for preparing the Final Merit of the candidates.
(II) (A) Main Written Examination (Descriptive Type) : (Tentatively scheduled for 17/07/2022)
The Candidates would be able to download their ‘eCalllettercumAdmission Slip’ from the HCOJAS Portal – https://hcojas.gujarat.gov.in from 11/07/2022.
(i) The Main Written Examination shall consist of Two Papers, based on the Syllabus given below :

(ii) Language of Question PaperI & Question PaperII of Main Written Examination shall be English. Answers to Questions of Papers I & II of Main Written Examination may be given either in English or in Gujarati, if not instructed otherwise.
(iii) The Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes, securing minimum 45% Marks and all other Candidates securing minimum 50% Marks in the Main Written Examination shall be eligible for being called for Vivavoce (Oral Interview) Test, provided the Candidate has secured minimum 40% Marks in each paper.
(II) (B) Vivavoce (Oral Interview) Test : (Tentatively scheduled on 09/10/2022)
(i) Vivavoce Test shall be of 50 Marks.
(ii) The object of the Vivavoce Test is to assess the suitability of the Candidate for the cadre by judging the mental alertness, knowledge of law, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgement, skills, attitude, ethics, power of assimilation, power of communication, character and intellectual depth and the like, of the Candidate.
(iii) For being eligible to be included in the Select List, the Candidate must have obtained a minimum of 40% Marks in the Vivavoce Test.
(iv) In view of the amended Rules viz. Sub Rule (1)(i) of Rule11 of “The Gujarat State Judicial Service (Amendment) Rules, 2014”, since ‘Character’ and ‘Suitability’ of a Candidate holds an important and paramount place for being considered for Appointment to the State Judicial Service, therefore, kindly note that, these aspects can be inquired into, by the Competent Authority, prior to the VivaVoce (Oral Interview) as per Annexure ‘A’:

Q1. What is the Qualification of Civil Judge in Gujarat?
Ans Civil Judge Educational Qualification:-
(i) A prospective Candidate must possess a Degree in Law from a University recognized by law in India &
– Will have to pass the vernacular (Gujarati) language proficiency test. [See instructions at Item No.5(I)(iv)]
Provided that, those candidates who have cleared their secondary as well as higher secondary examination with subject of Gujarati (Higher Level at both stages), shall not be required to pass aforementioned examination.
– must be practicing as an Advocate in Courts of Civil and / or Criminal Jurisdiction on the last date fixed for submission of Online Application.
Candidates, who have passed the Degree in Law from the academic year 20092010 and onwards, must have also passed the All India Bar Examination, in order to be considered as eligible for being termed as a Practicing Advocate.
Note: In the instant Recruitment Process, High Court of Gujarat has decided to allow all such Candidates to register their Online Application who have appeared in AIBE and waiting for result/certificate, subject to giving an undertaking to the effect that, if he/she does not clear the AIBE before Vivavoce Test / Document Verification stage, his/her Application would stand rejected.
